An English description of ICQ anno 2005
filzkopf, 03:35h
Hab ich eben rausgekramt. Eine Beschreibung über ICQ für meine damalige Englisch-Lehrerin
An English description of ICQ
Much people (mostly parents, grand-parents or teachers!) would like to know what ICQ is.
They know that their children, grand-children and pupils are sitting in front of the pc and hanging around in ICQ the whole day, but they cannot imagine what it is.
With the following text I try to explain ICQ.
If my mother meets her friends, they sitting together and talking about ICQ. Everyone has a child with ICQ so they all ‘’know’’ ICQ, but no one can couch it.
One mother says: ’’ICQ? That are little letters on pc!’’
An other mother says: ’’ICQ is a place on the Internet where the kids meet today! Not like we did it when we were younger! We went out or meet each other in the city, but today teenagers don’t do this! They prefer going on ICQ!’’
I think this statements aren’t so wrong, but I try to describe ICQ on an other way:
If you have a computer (and you have the possibility to be on the Internet) you can download a special program called ICQ!
You’ll have to choose a nickname (clearly you can also use your normal name as a nickname).
Then you’ll get your password and your ICQ-number. If you turn on your pc, you can start the program, which goes per Internet. You’re online know! Now you can search persons who also have ICQ. For example you start the ICQ-search-program and then you can search your friends. You have to enter the name of your friend and then you see his or her ICQ number.
Now you can add him or her to your friend-list, so you see him or her if he or she is online and you can write messages at him or her. If you have a lot of persons on you friend-list and they are all online you can write with all of them at the same time.
You can also send songs, pictures or other files per ICQ!
That is a great invention and nearly everyone in our class has it.
The only thing, which is a bit bothering is the ICQ-sound. If you get a new message it makes ‘ao’ but you can change or turn off the ICQ-sound.
With ICQ you always know the class-news! (For example who likes who, who hates who…)
